| last friday i called a few buyers. Gorge Kortum, Allen Steal, rocky mountian, Kreig with american fur and hide , and a few others and they all told me that fur prices are not looking good , they said some stuff happend in china that is throwing off the market and that none of them are paying over $600 for best cats and that most cats are moving in the $300 to $400 range.. Gorge told me that if i was smart i would sell all of my cats early that he feels that the price, will drop even more ..
Just wondered if any one has heard anything diffrent .?

| I sealed cats today and could see that the price was lower than some guys were expecting. One person I know sold cats last year at the Elko seal date in February for a ten cat average of 1,100. He told me today that his bids were down 40% from last year for his cats. I did not have the buyers look at my cats as I am selling in Fallon.......now I wish I had have. If anything to get an idea of the market. I had a another close friend sell an average 40" tom, not Nevada stretched, for $525. A lot can change and I am gonna keep thinking that the Fallon sale will be where buyers are filling their quota for the year! | |

| Hopefully with lower cat number being caught and sold at fur sale the prices go up. | |

| I am thinking with the low catch numbers that the prices will go up for sure. It always starts out like that. And can you blame the fur buyer saying it will crash so he can get your 1000$ cat for 5-600$. Nope thats how it works partner. And if you were in his shoes you would do the same. | |

| Talked to two other guys that sold cats in Elko today. One sold nine cats for a 470's average, the other sold over ten cats for a low 600 average. I did hear the $40 and $66 dollar average on coyotes, but I also heard one guy sold a bunch of coyotes for $33 average.
Bucks, I have the same feeling as you posted. Last year the first seal date wasn't a gang buster either. Prices started going crazy the second tagging and later.

| I am saying hold on to your fur to get the best price. Make the fur buyers fight each other for your fur!!!! We worked hard for the few cats we caught so make them pay!!!! | |

| I am tumbling my coyotes this weekend and shipping them to Otis for the Colorado sale. Hope they do well over there.... Heard that's the place to have your coyotes so that's where my coyotes and reds are going. | |

| Still just have a small line behind the house and am setting a big line for just cats out on Friday. Got some private property that hasn't been trapped in 6 years so should be good. Hoping to get about 60 sets out on Friday and hit it hard the last month here. | |

| Good luck the last month, NVSAGE. Hopefully we get some snow to move the cats back down to the low country. Who knows where they have headed the last four weeks? It has been a long dry spell! | |

| Guys, We all loved the prices from the last 2 years. It was nice now everyone is dealing with a whole lot of new trappers and everyone wants to average 800 and up. I trapped the last fur boom in the late 70s and early 80s top lots were around 500 to 550 average for the best of the best. I got 775.00 for a super 50" tom I was danceing on air. Those guys that sold this year at Elkos tagging did pretty good. I know I will take some heat but when you can get 10 to 15 dollars an inch that is still pretty good. If we can cover cost and make a little that is always great. And the intrest of the get rich guys will fade away and we will have our hills back. Just my 02 cents worth Jim | |

| When looking back at prices of past years one has to consider the inflated prices of our expenses today and the devalued dollar we get from selling our produce. (same thing on both really) Economies and fashions do change from year to year but when I hear the 40% -50% rumors, I smell skunk. Not sure what to do about it though. Just don't panick and sell to cheap I guess. Kind of depends on what type, quanity and quality your selection is. At this point I would say select cats should be held close for a bit longer. Might have to eat those words later. | |

Risk I am willing to take. It's always a risk isn't it? Should I sell early, late, here or there, if I would have waited maybe.... It's all a role of the dice. All I can do is put everything up best of my ability and hope for the best.

| Had A guy here in town that sold 4 cats to Rocky Mt. Fur and averaged 525.00 he said that they were paying 600.00 tops. I seen his cats and they were run of the mill. Nothing super. I feel that after Colorado sale and Utah we will know. They keep saying the take is way down I dont know but it is in my area. I had a buyer call looking for coyotes and wanted to buy at 30.00 average. I feel they are trying to get as much as cheap as they can. | |

| Update : sorry it has taken me so long to get on here and post update on Elys tagging, most cats moved in the 400 to 500 averages. buyers said most cats brought in that day were smaller , they were not seeing alot of size , and most of the fur was coming in from down south, i do know some guys here in Ely that sold a few cats in the 600 range, guys said they were getting 50 to 60 for coyotes , i did not get any info on fox prices. buyers i talked to said most lots were small, and alot of new faces , guys they had never seen before , new trappers chasing high fur prices , buyers said that there was no shortage of cats though , seemed to be a steady stream of guys bringing in fur all day, I did not sell im following Bucks advice and going to make them pay for it i hope! i cought two more cats this weekend and hope to catch more . good luck to you all ............ | |
