| I did really good on cats, but when you can only keep 5 you are keeping the best ones anyways. I averaged right close to 400 on my 5. Coyotes were around 10 bucks also. | |

| Sounds like you did really good. I got more for the first cats I sold in dec. then any others. I sold as the season went on every month. |

| We got 333 for our Bobcat. We averaged 11 bucks on our coyotes and 15 on our Red Fox. So I guess that is okay. | |

THAT is the part the DNR doesnt seem to "comprehend"...I flat out told them...IF they had a quota I'd ONLY keep the cherry Toms..all the females and kits WOULD be released..half dead or broken feet included... it's STUPID the way they do it!! lynx

| Our cats were bringing between $18 and $25 at the February auction. Really sad. Last year, the same cats would bring $60 on up to $100 for a really good cat. Our bobcats don't have the fur that western cats have. | |

| Fur prices plain out and out sucked. There isn't a coyote market and looks like there won't be any kind of a market for a few years to come. Cat market was okay but looks like only the top of the top will be worth anything next season. Anything else will be graded hard and low prices. I'm tired of everyone saying I don't do for the money then turn around and complain about the prices. Don't see much of a future for any serious trappers to make a good living off of fur anymore. | |

| BEST part of the low prices is that it'll get rid of the "weekend trappers"... bet cat trappers are off 70-80 percent next year around here... that's a GOOD thing... | |

| Brent are you quitting?
What about all the guys who are retired? They can trap all they want and it doesn't matter what price they get. They don't care about the prices. As they are paid as in retirement. I don't see anyone quitting next season, in fact probably see more out in the field.
See you lost a large part of your area.
Tanning and selling is such a small area to sell into. Then you and the thousand other guys doing doesn't leave much share of the pie.

| I agree its a small area to sell into, but I think it will be worth a try, rather than sell them raw for peanuts. Because they are tanned, their "shelf life" has been greatly extended, so that if they don't sell right away, that's no big deal. | |

| I did better than I expected based on the auction reports I read about. I sold through the ITA's fur acution and got an even 14.00 each for 23 coyotes and not quite 21.00 each for 18 red fox. Those were my big number targets. The 6 coons, 4 skunks and 2 badgers paid for the gas. They went 7.50, 4.50, and 20.00 each respectively. | |

| JK- $14 isn't anything. Costs more to produce at that price than you make. Unless you work full time get paid time to trap. Than it doesn't hurt you.
RE good luck on the tanning hope you get your money out of them after the production costs and tanning costs are all added up.

| Havent quit yet... dont suppose I ever will!! Trapper pressure will be WAY down next year... stupid simple common sense...IF they're NOT catching cats..they WONT trap.. as for loosing a big part..I've lost a TON of "rim roads" but have it "figured out"... NOT as big of a deal as I originally thought it'd be. lynx - Dawgz wrote:

I still came out ahead. I don't have much invested as I trap out my back door so to speek. My gas bill for the whole season was less than $100.00

| That right there is one problem with the trapping industry. You and everyone else don't care, as long as you can.

| He did loose ground or access as with the rest of the people who use that area. It means doing miles of walking if one wants to trap old sets. All the atv trails that were put in illegally on the canyon rims are now a no no. The main road system will still be open from what I have read, but all feeder type roads wil be off limits. Will be interesting to actually see what will be allowed and what won't. Where one can travel and not travel. No one will know until they go out there and drive around. Should be a busy place now. All the hords will go there and look, over use and abuse it. No one went when it was just there, but give a glory type name to it and it's like majic, wow! where did this all come from.
Like the Great Basin NP in NV/UT line. No one went there nice and quiet. No crowds, they gave it a name and now over run.

| Great Basin Park had more people visiting before it was made a park. The difference is there were only 4-5 govment types on the forest service part in the summer and 1 in the winter. Now, there are nearly 100 parkies all year round.
