This past weekend was the NTA Western in Missoula, Montana. Had a good showing from Nevada guys, including Joel Blakeslee, Bill Ilchik, John Sullivan, Joe Bennett, myself. In fact, three of those giving demos were from Nevada so the rest of the world must think we know something.
The Montana Trappers Association did a great job and was a fabulous host. The fair grounds were perfect for the event, there was plenty of room to roam, and the demo area was one of the best I've seen.
This is Joe Bennett from Wildlife Services talking about how to catch spooked, paranoid, experienced coyotes. I learned a ton from his demo, including the secret rock set.
In fact, Joe's demo was so good that even celebrities insisted on having their photo taken with him.
John Sullivan also packed the house with an awesome cat demo. John is the modern equivalent of the E.F. Hutton commercial -- when he speaks, people listen.
But I have to come clean and tell you that the guy who inspired me the most was this guy. His name is Steve. He was in a car accident where he was trapped in his upside down vehicle for two days before anyone found him. He's now paralyzed from the waist down. HE'S A HECK OF A COYOTE AND FOX TRAPPER!!! That's right, he drives to a set location, gets his gear out and crawls to the set, then crawls back to his truck. I was amazed at this guy. Definitely inspired me to be a better trapper and a better human being.
