If you are part of a sporting family in Nevada, tomorrow is a big day for you.
On Thursday at 1:30 pm a vote will taken to either move 2 critical sportsmen bills forward or to kill them. The first bill is to amend Nevada's constitution to make it a right to hunt, trap and fish. This bill is currently the 3rd most popular bill with 1518 comments so far and 1112 of those are in favor while 406 are against the passage. This bill is known as SJR11. SPORTING FAMILIES ACROSS OUR STATE SHOULD WRITE THE SENATORS THAT MAKE UP THE NATURAL RESOURCES COMMITTEE AND TELL THEM TO VOTE IN FAVOR OF THIS BILL.
The 2nd bill is know as the Sportsmen Wildlife Council. The council's sole purpose is to educate the public about the benefits of what sportsmen provide to wildlife in terms of habitat improvement, safety programs, and wildlife enhancement projects over the years. This is similar to Colorado's "Hug-A-Hunter" campaign. Check out some of the commercials on you tube. This bill is known as SB163. The idea behind this Council is a huge public relations campaign to benefit hunting and other outdoor sports. It dovetails nicely with SJR11, the constitutional amendment, because SJR 11 will have to pass this legislature and the next one in two years, and then go out to the public for a ballot measure. If SB163 passes, it will have 3-5 years to provide messages to the public so that when the public hears about the proposed constitutional amendment, they will have a very favorable opinion of hunters and hunting.
Please send in an email to the senators of Natural Resource Committee. Also please continue to comment on both of these bills on the legislative website. Please make an appearance before the Natural Resources Committee tomorrow, either in Carson City at the Senate, or at the Grant Sawyer building in Las Vegas via teleconference, or Elko will probably also have a teleconference feed as well. We are hoping to bring you good news tomorrow afternoon and with your help it should be good news!!!!. The link for the website will be in the comment section.
