| Im new to Cat trapping. Im only running about 20 sets and have caught Two Cats this year. I try my best to set only in area's with NO sign of human traffic. No boot prints, no roads. So im really limited in where I set. Have any of you Cat Trappers set in area's that looked really good for Cats but found almost no sign yet still connected? I'm working a really rocky area and have found limited sign, no prey species. The only thing other than the two cats a caught is that I connect on several Kit Fox, when I set with MB 450's but now Im using the MB 550's.......................... In the few books I have read the Author's mentioned about setting area's with little to no cat sign and still catching a lot of Cats. Just wondering what your experience has been.

| Some places it is next impossible to find sign, it is always better to have good sign but sometimes It is hard to find. There has to be a good reason for a cat to be there though, like rabbits, birds or pack rats, if there is nothing there to eat the cats more than likely wont be there | |

| I have caught quite a few cats in spots with little or no sign at all. It really depends on the country around the SPOT you have found. It may be a spot they travel thru and not really hunt ? I have learned over the years if it looks good and "Catty" Set it! You can always move if nothing happens. This year I think they move alot and have no real spot they are staying in especially in mid. Nevada. Good luck. | |

| I have set on tracks many times this year and have not had one connect yet. All of my catches have been random, this spot looks good sets. The kitties are being wierd this year! | |

| We have had one snow storm this year in Northern Nevada. A few days after the storm I headed out to the area Im trapping and only saw rabbit tracks in the draws. So far this year, every place I have checked out for prey species has had very few if any sign. This last winter was dry and this year unless we get something really soon will be the driest. So do Cat leave an area if their water holes dry up and prey species are gone, or do they do like other wildlife, just die? Its going to be a tuff next year. | |

| The cats will leave an area when they run out of water or they die. They need water and food. Also a lot of your cats are probably already caught by someone else. Cats are being picked off before they ever get back to your area. Good ol' greed with these high prices equals no cats in good areas. I have a great area even seen tracks. I know one trapper to my south and one to the north of this area. No cat so far. Got a hunch that cat has already been caught. | |

| Your right with the price of cats as they are. Seems like everyone is setting out traps. The bad side of all of this is that a lot of these new trappers are setting in areas that are easy to get to and are heavily used by others. This is the reason why there is a legislative crack down on Trapping in Nevada. I mentioned on another sight that I talked to a Chukar hunter that has had his Shorthair caught 5 times in traps. The Price for Cats is going to cost us the right to trap...................If Nevada goes to a 24 hour trap check the next step will be Cage Traps only. At $100 a piece, I will be through trapping and will go back to Predator Calling.............................. | |

| Colorado has a cage trap behind every bush this year with the way prices were last year. One dealer of cage traps on the western slope sold over 700 cages this fall. Not as many cats being caught like last year, a lot of guys have not caught one cat. I can see a lot of cages going up for sale this spring. Hopefully in my area being way low on snow the cats have stayed up high running the ridge tops and next year will be better. My real fear though is they are getting trapped out or shot by calling. Everyone seems to be after them. Not much sign being seen by many. | |
