| Well, after a 19 hour day, the last sale of the season has ended. There were about 6 fur buyers present, with 3 of them buying the bulk of the fur at the sale.
The Idaho Trapper's Assoc. were launching a new computer system to tally the bids and didn't hear it from anyone, but due to the 6 hr. delay from the time bids were turned in and the start of the calling of the bids, I'd say there was some issues. The one thing I would have liked to see was the following information at the calling of the bids: Lot#, number of animals and type of animal and the high bid price. They called the Lot#, type of animal and the high bid. None of us there were able to get an average price on a species unless we had previously written down the lots and how many were in the lot.
From what I determined, Coyotes avg. around $40 to $42, Muskrats avg. in the $8 range. The distortion in the audio system made it difficult to get some of the prices of the cats, so we are going to have to wait for the results to be posted. From a few lots I knew about, these cats avg. around $450.
There was a bill in Idaho that was introduced to shorten the trap check time from 72 hrs to 36 hrs. It was dead before it really got started due to calls, letters and emails our sportsmans and trapping members in the state. 36hrs???? This would mean you would be doing every other check of the trapline at night, just didn't make sense.
When I get the results, I will post them on this site for everyone to observe.

| Well, the Idaho Trappers Assoc. posted the fur sale results. I have tried to post a url address so it would be easy to click into and view, but alas, I'm not quite as computer literate as I wish I was. It didn't work, so I will advise you to go into the Idahs Trappers Association and then click into fur sale archives at the bottom of the page. Cats avg. $409.47, Coyotes avg. $38.47, Red Fox avg. $29.53, Cross Fox avg. $44.47, Muskrat avg. $8.51, Silver Fox avg. $51.37(there was only one of these) and the rest are on the web site if you are interested.

| It looks like my averages were better than the sale averages on everything but skunks and coon. I had 30% of the porky hair offered with 8 ounces. I'm thinking that about paid for my 4 wheeler gas. | |

| I figure if you pluck the guard hairs and quills, it should just about pay for the gas next year if it doesn't keep going up. Gas went up $.18 yesterday. Hope the greed stops soon or I won't be able to run a trapline next year. | |

| I think someone put some Viagra in the pumps around here also and there is no stopping it from going up now. It can easily be $5/gal or $6/gal this fall if something isn’t done. | |

| I work in the oil fields in North Dakota, and get a lot of information on this resource we have there. We have lots of oil coming out of this area now ( and more coming out all the time) where we didn't have this 2 years ago when fuel prices were more than a dollar a gallon less than it is now. They also figure the cost of getting a barrel of oil out of the ground in ND is $16 to $18 dollars a barrel. So why the high price of fuel? It has to be those who are refining the oil who are raping us with the US Govt.'s blessing is all I can figure. Also, we are exporting a lot of our domestic oil? Why? Lets use our own oil and quit buying the high priced Mid-East oil! There needs to be a cap on the price of fuel and we need to see lower profits made by these big oil companies. | |

| We produce oil in Alaska and ship it overseas, produce oil here and ship it over seas and when we buy oil, we buy it from overseas ship it here and then we refine it? (WTH) We are also producing more oil in my country than we ever have. I have heard that the high prices are because of investors in the market and not because of production cost or the original cost of producing the fuel. The rich keep getting richer and the rest of us are just trying to survive. | |
