Guess I've really been out of touch for some time. Met Stacy back in the fur boom of the seventies. Quite a wealth of knowledge. Last I had heard he was still keeping trapping alive in Ca. (once they lost the leghold traps) by building cage traps. Talked to him at the Western Trapppers event in Blackfoot Idaho in 2002. Sad day, and here is something to think about. If we don't pass on our knowledge and skills we have learned to our young, trapping will die with us. That would be the saddest event of all. I've taught both my boys to trap, even though with their jobs, they don't trap, they still have the knowledge. I was taught by many mentors in my life and felt the obligation to pass it on to someone else. How about we all do a "Pay it Forward" when it comes to trapping and make a New Years Resoulition to teach a young person our trade and hobby? Then do it again next year and the year after that. Surely at least one of the three will go on to trap and hopefully pass it on to the next generation from them.
