I rarely do anything to my traps including dying or waxing them. Honestly though I think a good dye and wax is better than any dip.

i have never dyed or dipped, dont have anything to do it with. i painted my traps last year, but if i am going to spend some money on more, i wanted to be proactive in longivity of the trap, so i was looking at differant dips, dyes, waxes etc.., asked about the cold dip because that is something i can do at this stage, but i dont want something thats is going to hang up the preformance of the trap, my traps i now have been preforming with a coat of rustolium brown on them, maybe thats what i'll do this year ?

In my opinion as far as trapping goes I dont think any of it is necessary to catch animals. I have about 50 traps that I bought threw in the dishwasher and used. sure they are rusty but 10 years later strong and still in good shape. Then about 3 or 4 years ago I purchased 20+ dozen traps, and at the same time a lot of wax. They are still setting here brand new waiting to be done. I have avoided using them recently even when I ran out of traps, just because I do eventually want to put that protective coat on. So for me it is a good idea to protect them and any of these things will work, including what you use (rustoleum) works great.
