I have spent the entire summer working on my trapping rig and getting everything ready for this season.... Well it looks like the season is upon us and I am actually ready to go this year. One of the big hick ups this year for me is a new ranch manager for a place I have been trapping for the last 5 years.... I learned to trap coyotes on this ranch. They are going after the gopher's with the coyotes.... It's a Ranch NOT a FARM??? Oh well I have picked up another good ranch and will trap some areas I have been wanting to for the last couple years. Scouted it out the other day and it's amazing the amount of coyote scat in this area and also found a den. I think this will shape up to be one of my best seasons ever.

Did a little fleshing today, got the fur shed organized, filled the tumbler with fresh saw dust and got my set bag & lures all filled and ready to roll. Traps will go out this thursday. Hope everyone enjoys "riding along" on my trapline with me and that some others post some of their success on the trapline.

Not bad for this time of year! No blue leather and was pretty fat. We may have a bad winter ahead of us!

Looks great Lance! Im very jealous of you northern boys' long trapping season. My girls and I more than likely wont start setting until mid december. But I am headed out deer hunting this friday for a 9 day hunt and i'll be taking along atleast a dozen traps in case I fill my tag early. I'll catch myself some of those 50$ bounty coyotes in utah! Best of luck this year lance and thanks for posting your pics for us to follow along!

Looking good bud! That sucks you lost some ground. I've dealt with the same type of coyote loving ranches in the past and I still scratch my head when I think about it. The dog population seems to be very abundant and I'm sure you will be fleshing to your hearts content very soon. Lol. Good luck this season, I'm looking forward to your posts!

Good luck on the hunt Hezzy! Hope you can put down a good buck and catch a couple of those bounty coyotes!!!!

Made about 100 gallons of wax dirt today! Finishing up some high desert spears and checked in with the ranchers! I am a go for Thursday..... It can't come soon enough!

Great video as always! You just made my mind up for me... Going to put a couple cameras out when I so set on Wednesday and Thursday!!

Here are a couple of sets from the other day. Gotta love a coyote/cow trail.

I always put at the least 2 traps at every location. This cow trail runs through a basin that connects 2 draws. You can see the coyote tracks in the mud from only a day or two ago. I rarely set a trap in a location with out some tracks or calling cards. Only time is if I know it's a proven location.

Dirt hole.

Well my first check of the season was a bummer! Only 1 coyote and a crater maker! Between the rain cows and rabbits I had to remake a 1/3 of my sets. Put out some more today in a new area. Really great coyote and fox sign. Going back out again tomorrow to finish that line up.... Parent teacher conferences this afternoon.

Rancher called last night and the kids were off for Nevada Day so we went and checked these sets a day early. Glad they were able to make it. Seems like they are so busy now days with dance, soccer, basketball, etc that they don't to come as much. So took advantage of the ranch being close by to town.

Will have to check em again tomorrow so I have everything on same schedule but it was well worth it taking the girls along. I had been raining hard here since this morning so I am sure I will be remaking a ton of sets tomorrow!

Only good thing about the badgers are that both of yesterday's coyotes came from the outer catch circles of the badgers. Killer remake sets for sure.

Couple more. Pulled pretty much my entire line except what is on a ranch close to town.  Really been thinking hard on running a cat line and have a couple areas I am thinking about. We will see.

Those are some dang good runs there Tracy!!! Don't know how you skin later like that.... I hate skinning an hour after dispatch but those end of the day tail gate photos are always cool too.

1 more today and did pick up another on Sunday. Snow in forecast tomorrow and I can't wait this trapping and skinning in the 60s and some days 70s is getting old!!!

Been keeping up on the coyotes this year.... I really do need a bigger shed though it works but man is it tight in there!!!

Beautiful photos Cameron2!!! It appears you have been pretty busy and  having fun wacking some dogs. I am not sure what is up this year but I have seen more coyotes alive and dead on the highways than ever before. It drives me crazy knowing I don't  have a stake in the game yet. It's great to see guys here getting some redemption while they give me a dumb look as I drive past em. Thanks for posting!

Man Lance it does look tight but I wouldn't of noticed unless you said something because I only focus on the great put up you have going on in the background. Seriously they look ready to sew together and wear as a coat.

Lance and I were talking yesterday about how this site was going to be re-named the Tracy and Lance website (notice I got top billing) because we were the only ones posting. Glad to see Lance was able to double our readership.

Nice put up on those coyotes Lance. Jim Curran might as well just mail the Best Handled Coyote award to you right now.

You guys are hitting the dogs hard this year. I still haven't connected with a coyote yet. Few fox is all. Hoping to get some weather around here before cat season anyway. Only another week and a half until that kicks off. Good Luck everyone

Thanks guys..... I really do enjoy putting up fur just as much as catching it. They aren't done yet still have some more to do after they are completely dry. Nice to see some others posting instead of just lurking lol
Caught 3 more today. One didn't get a pic do to being toe caught.... good thing the 550 had a good hold on em. Only the second toe catch of the season I must not of helped guide his foot well enough. Learn something every time I go out for sure. Finally getting a little weather got a skiff of snow and it was 16* this morning. Wax dirt permormed like always!!
Makes 30 so far.

Both these coyotes came out of remakes. Always reset those locations!

Let the poacher know how you and many others feel about starting your season early. More than likely it wont be the only illegal actions going on and probably isnt the Evil or Very Mad first time the rules have been bent for his own benefit. I bet he would squeal like a mashed cat if it was you in his place

There are many ways to interpret the rules. Some must bend for there benefit. If the season opens on the 26th I say don't put steel down until then. Some would say other. But then again a cat in possession on the 26th is that breaking the rules? Season is open? Many ways to skin a cat. Always going to be people that push the rules.

Sorry I've been MIA on this site this fall, I did love catching up with the pictures and posts just now! Great pictures Lance and Tracy, you both are having a great year so far.

I've been trapping coyotes since the first part of November, but have caught two cats lately. The picture below is of the first one, he was on November 21- I didn't have to put him up. What a rush letting that guy go!

When I get more time I'll post some pictures, the one I'm most excited about is my daughter's first deer. This was her first year hunting and we hunted every day I had off in October when her youth hunt started until she found the one she liked.

These are last weeks catch pictures. At first I wondered if the cat was the same one I released, looking closer they have very different patterns on their legs. The first cat that is roaming needs to stop by one of my kid's cage traps Smile

Here are a few from the weeks before. As you can tell from the photos I have had snow the last bit and I love to catch coyotes in the junipers! Last year when I was scouting for cats, I kept finding TONS of coyote sign in the south facing juniper hills. it is nice there because the dirt doesn't freeze up like the shady slopes and I can run coyote sets into late December. Besides, cats love a big dirt hole just like the coyotes!
