Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew when the Nevada Convention is this summer? I can't seem to find it on their website, but that doesn't mean that it isn't there. I've gone to it a few times, and am considering it again. I'm denning coyotes in June, so tough to get away, but I'm hoping it's in July still. Thanks in advance!

John last year we had it the first week of August in Ely. I don't know that anything is official yet but believe it is going to be decided at the Fallon sale this weekend on what day it will be. Last years turn out was awesome.... Some said it was just as big if not bigger then the western.

OK, Thanks, I guess that would be a good time, (August) since I don't plan on going to the NTA in New York. I appreciate it.

Hello John,

I'm going to the membership meeting this Saturday in Fallon to run it by the group but it looks like we will be having it again in Ely. We would love to have you attend. As Nvsage said, it was a huge event last year and looks to be even bigger and better this year now that we know what we are doing, lol. I will post more information next week but was planning on having it around the same time this year as last. Thank you so much for your interest and I will contact you directly. Thanks, Joe

I won't be at the meeting, but I'll vote (by proxy) for Jul 31-Aug 1. I'll put it in the vacation calendar now, and I'll be there looking to buy supplies for next season.

That sounds good to me Doc, if anyone has ideas, suggestions or comments, now is your time to shine. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated as well. We made a bunch of money last year and it all went to the association for great causes to help promote and defend trapping here in Nevada.

Other than raffle tickets, how does an association make money at one of these things? It seems that people might pay money to throw skunk bombs (water balloons with a little skunk essence) at 20 paces.

It was pretty much the raffle, we did sell a bunch of memberships, hats and T-shirts but it was the raffle. My goal was not to make too much money but to provide great demos, excellent food, family fun and a place to come together and visit and share ideas, and I think that was accomplished last year for sure. We could have an animal rights person on the dunk tank but that's up to the board.

Any word yet on the rondy date? Unless Nevada turns in to a rain forest I doubt August will work to me.

I'm anxious to see what they decided. It looks like the fur fair in Hong Kong was good. I got a photo e-mailed to a me a few days ago, from there, of Michael Pappas. When I talked to Michael last night, he told me that it was his 25th year of attending it, and they had given him a little party to celebrate the fact that he has been promoting 'cat and 'cat garments there for so long. Anyway, I'm planning my summer, and might make a few all night drives to get to a few places I haven't been in awhile, like Ely.

I'm just trying to make the stars line up. I'm trying to coordinate this with Kes and Rachael (Rachael handled all of the kids activities and Kes cooked), two very important components of a great Rondy. I'll set the dates just as soon as possible. I'm sure not everyone will be happy but I'm doing the best I can at the moment.

OK, the dates have been set for July 31 thru August 2. Sorry for those who wanted different dates but that's what we came up with and hope everyone can make it work some way.

The NVTA has set the date for the weekend of July 31. Location is the same as last year: Ward Mountain Campground, 10 miles West of Ely on Hwy 50. Sorry we cannot accommodate everyone with dates. Most important is to have the next generation attend when they are still on summer vacation. This is a great event for kids with many, many events and prizes for them. 70 some happy kids attended last year.

Us old timers enjoyed it last summer as well with great demos and one stop shopping for supplies.

I hope as many as possible can attend. This campground is in the heart of NV high country. Good fishing nearby. And good for you to camp out or stay in one of many hotels in Ely and attend.

Been looking forward to this since last years ended! Can't wait to see everyone again... made some great friendships that have extended well beyond just the Rondy. This one is going to be even bigger then last years in my opinion.... there is a lot of talk about how well it went last year on a lot of other forums. When you put such a driven group of people in charge of this thing like last year you know its going to turn out to be an awesome event. Thanks for info. I will be reserving my spot here shortly before everything runs out again Smile

Hello all,

Campsites can be reserved by calling 877-444-6777. Ask for Ward Mountain Campground and reserve the camp spots for the nights of 7/31 and 8/1. Be patient, I was on hold for a long time but did book four campsites (that's the limit per person) yesterday for those dates. It is $26 per site for both nights. If there is anyone willing to book extra please let me know, the association will reimburse you with the receipt. They will email you the receipt after you make your reservation. We already have some great demos in place and the raffle is shaping up to be the best ever. I look forward to seeing you all there and thanks for everyone's help.

Thanks for the info. Will put it on the calendar. Once again if I had enough pre order stuff to get us there and back I would gladly make the trip. Its a long haul for us, but I sure enjoyed what the crew did last year. Was a good time for sure. You all ponder it, or pass the word on. If anyone needs my number it is 970-268-5554 Leave a message during the day, will call back in the evenings.

Otis

Hello all,

The 2015 raffle tickets have arrived.  We have way more prizes this year then in the past including a Remington 270, a Henerys survival 22 rifle, deer/antelope mount, traps, electronic call, bait, lures trapping supplies and too much more to mention.  I have it set up that the guns can be shipped (at the winners expense) to any state except CA and NJ, sorry.  We also have six 22 rifles for the kids free raffle as well as every kid will win a prize.  Please PM me if you are willing to help sell raffle tickets, they are $5 each or 6 for $20. More information to follow, Thanks

Geez John, Thanks for the kind words! I will try to get there. I have some shuffling to do, but am really considering it. We've been busy with coyotes, and just got the first den of the year today. We'll see what the next month or so brings. Our middle son graduates from H.S. in May, and he works with me for the summer denning/trapping, until he leaves for college. The extra shoe leather will help my partner out a bit so I can get away for a day or three. I'll try to get a few other things out of the way and make it yet. In any event, I'll get some items sent off for door prizes or whatever at the convention.
