WC Meeting . . . Did ANYONE see that coming??? Empty
PostSubject: WC Meeting . . . Did ANYONE see that coming???   WC Meeting . . . Did ANYONE see that coming??? EmptyMon Mar 24, 2014 12:45 pm

So on Friday it was the first day of the Wildlife Commission meeting. Jack Robb, who sits on the Trapping Regulation committee, gave a report to the Commission and made a couple of interesting points -- to the shock and surprise of almost everyone.

First, he said that he intends to "re-visit the regulations on trapping in the rural areas of Nevada." Remember at the Elko committee meeting, the Trapping Committee voted to recommend that there be no new trapping visitation changes in the rural areas?? I guess that recommendation was made to pacify all the trappers/sportsmen/guides/ranchers/farmers/county commissioners that were there to argue against no new regulations . . .  and apparently knowing that when the Commission got to Vegas or Reno (on more friendly anti trapping turf), they would just change their minds anyway.

Second, he said that he intends to "enlarge the Washoe area map" which requires daily trap checks. Again, why have a meeting in Reno and vote to recommend a map, then turn around and tell everyone that you intend to change your mind at a future Commission meeting????

Finally, he said he intends to recommend a 12 point demerit system for trap violations. That means one violation and you are done trapping. It could also mean you are done hunting and fishing too. Where did that come from????

This is like running in sand . . . we seem to take one step forward, and then two backward. We marshal overwhelming support from all aspects of sportsmen, hunters, trappers, ranchers, livestock, government, etc. . . . and we get a pat on the back with a vote that the Committee agrees with us . . . only to have the Chair of the Commission say he's been having some off-the-record conversations with someone and will ignore everything presented and all prior votes, and stab us in the back anyway.

I'm just speechless. I can't even frame a response to that.

I am speechless as well. I guess we need to keep working on the other committee members, 4 beats 3 at any meeting. I have one personal contact on the commission that I will contact so see what is up with the change in Mr. Robb's tone. Maybe if it is one rogue member he may be displaced?

I guess it would be more accurate to say 5 beats 4. I left a message on one of the commissioners cell phone and will let you all know if I find out something. We all need to contact the governor, those positions are appointed by him and we need to get a more trapper friend group on the commission.

When one goes to one of these meeting how do you show that your pro trapping? Wear my here kitty kitty shirt? ha!

What I mean is Vegas is a big town with lots of different folks. How do I show what I'm there for? Is it only based on the public input periods?

I am not from NV but will chime in anyway. This is the same thing happening all over the country and what I see in MN currently. The sportsmen are losing the opportunity of any say at all although provide an income to the state to pay for the sport/lifestyle/commercial activity. Minnesota has roundtable/stakeholder meetings and what the bottomline is..."here is what we are proposing, jump on board". The only way things are getting over ridden are by the legislature's that sporting group members have made friendships with that have a lot of power at the state office. SO my suggestion in all that, start sucking up to legislature's as well as these groups have got to start donating to DNR special projects that is why (DU, Delta Waterfowl, etc.) have so much pull. I am sure I am just stating the obvious. I also believe it is time start looking/asking for resignations in the wildlife agencies and making the changes needed.
