| In the area I am trapping right now every good catty location has on old set. These sets have to be from two or more seasons ago. They had really rusted wire still at sets, the cuts from the limbs used for blocking have already turned black and had no needles left. I ended up setting a lot of these old sets because they were already where I wanted to put my traps. Well, while checking my sets I started noticing that most of the sets that were old sets had my blocking pushed onto my sets some had rocks on them and some were fired off. At first I thought the horses were doing it, but it was only from the old sets. I started looking closer after about five messed up sets and saw his quad tracks and cigarette butts left at my sets. It seems the previous trapper moved back into his old area and was a little pissed off. My question is what should I have done, leave area and try to find virgin trapping grounds Ha!ha! Or just set as first come. I would think that most trappers would respect other trappers. But obviously there are some you know what trappers out there. At least he did not steal my traps. Who knows what else he did at my sets. | |

| I would keep trapping there. Maybe leave him a note at one of your sets asking him to quit messing with your traps and stating that the area is under video surveillance. Those types often behave if they think someone may be watching them! | |

| Public ground first come first served. But old trapper's are very territorial(sp?). They were there before you. But you beat them to it this season. Leave him a note "I'm honest if you are".

| Good luck I had a similar situation last year.........................the other trapper gave me a warning to stay out and left a note on my truck......................I was set above him and he did not like the idea that cats would hit my sets before him. Plus he was missing traps and accused me of stealing them. I called NDOW and let them know what was up........................
As ethical trappers we have to be looking over our shoulders for unethical trappers that will steal your sets..............
If this guy Is messing with your sets rest assured that if you stay there you might be loosing traps.
These are the type of trappers that the Nevada Legislature is looking into. These guys will bring about the loss of your trapping rights...............................
Its not the ANTI-TRAPPERS Im worried about its the other Trappers and Hunters that either steal your traps and animals or trap in such a way that others want Trapping closed down.
Good Luck

| Great idea cat Skinner. I wish I had some trail cameras. Hopefully he does not come back and steal my traps. It cost a lot to get started trapping and I would feel really bad not being able to take my kids out trapping. Sucks there are people like this out there.... | |

Not to prey, but do you trap in and around The Truckee Meadows, Reno, Sparks area. Im trapping East of Sparks off of I-80 I have yet to see any other trapper in there however when you mentioned seeing wire and evidence of another trapper being in that area it sounded very similar to what Im seeing, could be the same guy. Now Im really looking forward to doing my trap check, hope he has not decided to invade my area because I have sets on this old locations.................... I trapped for a very short time in the Petersen Mts..............and had two traps stolen one with a trap circle, so Im guessing they took what ever was in the trap........................
I just hate the thought of what I would do if while checking traps walked onto someone stealing my set...............Have not idea.

| I keep away from PM's as a trapper somehow added to one of my PM's making me say something I did not have no idea of how he did that so I just use email. | |
