Recently I have missed two cats, using exposed walk through sets. On both occasions, the trap fired but wasn't pulled out of set, only a few hairs pinched in the jaws. In your guys experience, will you get a second shot at a missed cat?

Sounds like maybe a big footed lion.

I have had same thing happen to me twice this year. What ever it was it pulled first or second pull. The area I am trapping has a real Rocky surface and tracks are hard to see. I hope it was a pulled lion and not a bobcat. Wish I had a trail camera on set.

Unfortunately, one was definitely a cat, I had good tracks in the snow right through the set, the other one could've been lion but I have a sneaking suspicion it was also a cat. I'm just hoping it didn't spook them out of the area or make them trap shy.

You need a good short throw on the pan and good tension. I usually go with 3-4lbs. If they feel the pan creeping they will pull quick. Good tension assures them that the step is solid and then you got them!!!

Ya, I don't have that much tension. I may need to tighten em up a hair. I also laminated the jaws last year, not sure if I like it. Seems like I've had more misses since I laminated. There all four coiled, but I'm wondering if the extra weight on the jaws is slowing them down to much.

What brand are they? If they are 4 coiled you should be fine on the speed. The tension is critical for sure. If you don't want to buy the tool weigh a hammer or some steel and use that to set your lb tension. Also another thing that works good is notching the trigger and pan. Short quick throw.

I'm using square jaw Bridger #3's. I have notched all the pans for a short action, but I don't use much tension, maybe that's where I'm getting misses. I'm definitely catching more than missing, but I don't like to have misses, gotta figure it out.
