A guy brought in 8 cats to be tagged where i was getting mine tagged, 4 nice adults. the other 4 were all kittens from this year, i mean i have seen house cats bigger than some of those he had, to me that is not good, i would of released or passed up a shot on all the kittens, guess size isnt that important to some

Yes, it can be terrible.
But I've done it.
Had no choice as the foot was froze and it would have died anyway.
But I understand what you are saying.
But unless the cat is only toed, very rarely every catch them back after being turned loose.
I know everyone says they survive, they do it with no problems.
Just my 2 cents and observations and experience. 30 years of it.

i can live with a cat with a frozen foot ,they shouldnt be released, and i understand in a snare or conibear is lethal. but with a rifle, you have a choice before you pull the trigger, my whole opinion was if we take the kill everything route and numbers sky rocket, how long is it before we are regulated, i think we should manage our resources ourself and not have the state or federal goverment do it for us, we have minimal trapping regs here, i enjoy doing it , it is a good oulet for me and my son to enjoy something together out doors, it teaches him about wildlife management

totally right, that's why I didn't set a cat trap this season.
wanted to badly but knew I wouldn't be helping the population this season or next. I'm just hoping the rabbits/bunnies come back, we have moisture and they make lots.
