I got to talking to a guy who I work with the other day, and when he found out I liked to trap predators, he invited me to trap his property next season. He's a quail hunter and is concerned about the dwindling population of the birds on his place. He says that he regularly sees bobcats and he hears coyotes yip-yapping at night. He wants me to trap them, but to wait until after quail season so that I won't catch any of his dogs. That's fine with me- the cats will be prime by then. From the way he talks, I should have a good population of predators to work for. I am excited.

Good deal Redeagle, you might even get to do a little deer hunting there also, once he sees all the quail eaters to take off the place.

When I first got into trapping I did kind of the same thing around here with the redfox, I got some permission to trap on the farms locally. The only bad part was there was to many houses going in and it destroyed alot of the habitat.

if he is seeing them cats regularly it should be like shooting fish in a barrel..

i trapped a place like that this winter for a fella who wanted me to do the same thing done.. i only ran 6 traps on a main ridge road and caught two bobcats in a week and a half.. this property is 750 acres with cat country written all over it so this next year it will alot more sets on it.

One thing when you get a good area, that I encourage people to do, is to farm it. There are areas that I could go into and catch my limit in 2 weeks, but then it might take 5 years to recover. If I farm it, I can take 2-3 cats every year. It is worth it to me. Sometimes when other trappers come in it can mess it up a little but its still worth it.
