Lets make some predictions on what our state sale averages will be for the upcoming season. Since I only have a feel for the west, I will pick the UTA averages.

Bobcat $175.00
Coyote $ 14.79
Red Fox $17.21
Gray Fox $19.93
Kit Fox $7.54
Beaver $14.53
Muskrat $2.01
Racoon $7.11
Badger $17.11

Bobcats $30
Coyotes won't change $0
Beaver $9
Muskrats, not enough to trap
Raccoon $10
Badgers $5
I might be a little high on some of these......................right now, I don't see that there is much of a market and until the world economy is straitened out, fur isn't going to be worth very much. I'm more concerned with the foreign country's economies, when it comes to the fur market going up, than ours. We just need to survive through the next four years and hope that Ronald Regan's is reincarnated and have him straighten out our economy again.

Unfortunately our economy and our fur market does rely pretty heavily on other countries. As far as Regan, there were a few choices on the Republican side last year that would have been good for the economy, unfortunately most people are followers and easily brainwashed.

I'm just talking Ks cats and fur here. Last year my average was well over ten times that much.
The year before seven times as much. This year I didn't ship any of the Ks cats that I caught. I have sold a over half the them in independent markets out of state. I still have several furs in the freezer and depending on what happens at NAFA this month, they might be going to the tannery. I still have coyotes in Canada from past years. Again this year I didn't ship any coyotes to NAFA, I only skinned the very best ones and had them tanned, for the most part they are already sold, the same with the badgers, they are worth more tanned that the fur market is willing to give me for them. Coons were a hot item last year and I averaged over $37/hide, I went ahead and shipped 100 to NAFA for the May sale, I am not expecting very much out of them and they are better quality hides than I shipped last year. If it wasn't a really good coon this year, I didn't put it up............ Phil

My cat put ups did a lot better than anyone else that I know of. Some of the cats that I catch and put up, grade western and I don't put up kittens and sows, those are released.

Sounds like my strategy. Most the time I am 200 bucks over our states average because of this. I wish others would do the same. I also wish they would take some pride in their putups. Many do, but many dont also.

There are very few trappers in this state that put up fur. The buyers only pay $1 more for green fur than they pay for animals in the round. That really drives the average prices down. Personally I put my fur and ship it.

Seems like things keep getting a little worse. Good and bad to it, you lose trappers, but on the other hand you lose trappers. There is strength in numbers, but when some are just out for the money, populations can be hurt, fur qualty suffers, etc.

During times of low prices, it is a good time to put up your own fur if you havent before! You really don't have much to lose!

I would agree with that. I take a lot of pride in my fur though. When I am doing a lot better than the sle average it gives me confidence. I am always looking to pick up new tricks though
